This week's blog brings you a collection of singles from numerous artists showcasing the very best of their latest releases: Only Sun // YouthIf you haven't already heard of this utterly brilliant indie-pop band yet then check out our feature on them from earlier this year, Only Sun are a infectious band you just have to listen to. They have embarked on a tough quest to release a new single at the start of every month for the entirety of 2018! They have already achieved success with singles such as 'Indigo' and 'So It Goes' this latest single follows in their footsteps in being yet another unmissable single. 'Youth' is led throughout by the jangly guitar and fast-paced, driving drums. The single is packed full of singalong lyrics. In an interview with Little Indie Blog the band describe how the inspiration and meaning behind the lyrics are "about growing up and facing the issues of adult life. It’s about acclimatising whilst retaining and remembering your own youth. The track stems from a feeling of being twenty-something and wanting to immediately have everything in your adult life sorted. It’s about coming to terms with being a twenty-something.” Norphlet // Brand NewNorphlet are an electric, alt-rock duo who are creating their music with over 1400 miles between them as one half of the duo is based in Texas and the other half in California. They are creating old school guitar music and this single is taken from their debut EP that was released in May this year. The song seems to have a range of influences and a range of sounds, at times it sounds reminiscent of the 90's, you can hear similarities to the likes of Biffy Clyro. The single opens tentatively but is led into the rockier, more dramatic chorus. If you're looking for a modern take on a classic rock band then this alt rock duo are certainly worth checking out. Vistas // CalmVistas are a band who have been doing pretty well for themselves but I thought I'd include their latest single in this weeks blog for anyone who hasn't been lucky enough to stumble across their music yet. 'Calm' is the title of one of their most recent releases which is such a great summer tune and the band themselves have said "It’s got a chorus that’s just made for festivals!" - and made for indie dance-floors too, I might add. They have been playing it live at gigs and festivals up and down the UK. When asked about the inspiration behind the lyrics and the title of the track the band said "The word ‘calm’ has kind of become a motto for the band. We all sometimes feel like things can get on top of us and just need a reminder to stay calm. So it felt really appropriate to write a song about that. That’s where the inspiration came from and the song is then about a person in your life who keeps you calm." Vistas have had an unbelievable response to their previous singles, including "Hold Me" and "Retrospect" and they have had over two million streams! To add to that success they've also been touring with the magnificent Marsicans. There's nothing not to like about this band, with their gripping guitar hooks and catchy choruses, they are definitely going to be massive! Robert O'Connor // No Second ChancesRobert O'Connor is a Dublin born and raised singer-songwriter, he took time out a working as a writer for the past five years, but then in 2018 Robert returned with his brand new self-written music which has been produced by Stuart Gray (best known for his work with Hozier and Ryan Sheridan) at Jealoustown Studios in County Meath, Ireland. Robert spoke about working with Stuart “I had these new songs but I was nervous about what people would think of them, I’d lost confidence in myself as a writer and a vocalist. Stuart said to me ‘If we’re going to do this, do it for you, make the music you want to make and forget about everyone outside of this studio’ and for once, I did what I was told”. The outcome of following this advice led to his previous single 'You Found Me' receiving international success, receiving airplay in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Germany and France, despite being entirely independent! 'You Found Me' is an uptempo indie-pop song full of hooks and a powerful, anthemic chorus with hints of country influences creeping into it.
