After a few months off we're back and we've selected a few of the best bands we've discovered whilst we have been away that you simply don't want to miss. ShambolicsShambolics are a 4 piece 'Dreamy Rock & Roll' band who are from north of the boarder in Fife, Scotland. They take their inspirations from the best of guitar based music from the 50's onwards, incorporating 60's psychedelia and 70's harmonies to 80s clean-cut guitar tones and melodic 90's anthems. Shambolics are a proper guitar based band and they've been gigging relentlessly up and down the country since 2015 culminating with being awarded the 'Best Rock/Alternative Act' at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards in 2017. Having been described by many as a band to watch, it's their huge catchy melodies that hook you in aided by good lyrics. Songs such as 'Chasing A Disaster' really showcases their bright, enthusiastic sound, full of quirky guitar riffs and harmonies, with vocals similar to that of The View and reminiscent of the likes of The La's. Other top tracks include 'When She Goes Home' and their latest release 'My Time Is Now' which was thrown at us at the end of 2018 and it continues with their psychedelic, signature sound. Check them out below:
The ReytonsFlash back twelve years, it's 2007, Arctic Monkeys just released 'Favourite Worst Nightmares' and you're listening to it on your new iPod Nano, life is good. Jump forward to 2019 and Arctic Monkeys have been reborn in the form of Sheffield band The Reytons and life just got a little bit better yet again. By no means are these lads just an Arctic Monkeys tribute, they have a definitive and original sound. I love the heavy guitar baseline complimented by that tinge of a northern accent. 'Low Life' emphasises garage rock at its finest, searing energy and fast tempos force you to your feet. 'Slice of Lime' is an instantly infectious track, with a happy vibe yet the lyrics have much deeper roots, tackling everyday problems with witty, humorous and intelligent lyrics. Their latest release 'Canine' again opens with the heavy guitar and thumping drums with almost aggressive vocals yet maintaining the catchy, infectious vibe. Having Sold Out the famous Leadmill in Sheffield and having been added to the Tramlines festival line up this year, surely big things are destined for The Reytons? Check them out:
RiscasRiscas are the most exciting band emerging from Birmingham right now. They have already established themselves on the music scene, achieving over 100,000 monthly listeners and attaining over 2.5 Million streams on their single 'Panic Like Tom' on Spotify. A single smothered with delicious hooks, it is the definition of indie-pop and that's exactly why at the time of its release Radio 1 named it as 'Track of the Week'. After starting with such a successful single it as clear these boys have talent. They've continued to make catchy music inspired by bands such as Vampire Weekend and even Bob Marley! Their latest release continues in the same vein opening with an eruption on the drums before the lyrics hook you in, the brooding guitar gives a smooth autumnal sound. Take a listen to a few of their tracks below:
