Liberty Ship // Which WayLiberty Ship are a rock-quartet hailing from Sheffield, it was thanks to fellow music blog Halfway 2 Nowhere that I was able to discover Liberty Ship. H2N hosted their very own Tramlines Fringe 2018 World Cup that saw a whole host of bands go head to head and battle it out for the top spot. Check out the entirety of the Tramlines World Cup on Halfway 2 Nowhere's Twitter (@H2NUK). Liberty Ship emerged victorious after fending off hot competition from Jordan Allen in the final. They can now add this highly acclaimed, prestigious title to their list of successes. The band have already had their fair share of success, having built a massive name for themselves as a brilliant live act by gigging extensively. This led to them supporting the likes of Sheffield's own Reverend and the Makers, and Milburn. The lads also got Ed Cosen from The Makers to help to produce a few of their tracks. They've gained quite a fan-base and Sold Out their home show at The Leadmill. They have been a great hit on the festival scene performing live at the likes of Isle of Wight, Kendal Calling, Y Not and Leeds Festivals and were also chosen from over 1500 applicants to open the main stage at 2015’s Tramlines Festival. So it's fair to say these four lads from Sheffield are a very exciting band to watch! When asked about where their inspirations come from the band said "It started off with the first Arctic Monkey’s album absolutely hammering it like everyone from Sheffield did, becoming obsessed with it then wanting to form a band and follow in their footsteps" They went on to say how they all have a huge range of influences from northern soul, to rock and Britpop like The Stone Roses. Their latest single 'Which Way' is an absolute masterpiece, an intelligent mix of Britpop and feel-good punk rock. It's such an authentic, modern rock'n'roll tune fuelled with wild exuberance. They are following in the footsteps of Jake Bugg and The Strypes in reviving the music scene, I can really see these lads going places. The melodic guitar and energetic rhythm make this single a memorable tune from the get go but with such an incredibly infectious chorus you'll find yourself singing along with the relatable lyrics by the end of the first listen. This single follows the release of countless other demos and singles from Liberty Ship. One of my personal favourites being 'Learning to Fly' which is yet another flawless tune with the same soulful vocals and catchy lead guitar. As well as great tunes like 'Cast Away' which opens with a Kooks-esque sound before the song opens up to a sound more likened to Miles Kane. They achieved global indie success with their debut ’Learning to Fly’ and the follow-up ’Don’t Wish’
Liberty Ship are living proof that Rock and Roll and guitar music will never die. If they keep producing songs like this then there's no reason they can't make it big; they really are a phenomenal band producing phenomenal music. Check The Indie Rooms Playlist: Here
