Here is yet another brilliant band emerging from the city of Sheffield. There seems to be an abundance of talent coming out of Sheffield at the moment with the likes of Liberty Ship, The Seamonsters, Oddity Road and so many more really making a name for themselves! RedFaces are already gaining the plaudits they deserve with NME having listed them as one of their essential picks for 2018. Their music has such a range of sounds but they remind me of artists like Oasis, The Enemy and even The Kinks. 'Wise Up' has a unique sound with a melodic, upbeat and electric sound with crisp vocal harmonies. This single was released last year and it is difficult to believe that this was just their second single as it is a perfectly constructed indie-pop tune with undeniably delicious hooks sprinkled all over the song. For such a young band their music is polished far beyond their years. RedFaces have been back this year with quite a few singles, my favourite of which being 'Messed Up Feeling' it is a shimmering, synth-led track, infectious from the first note. It has been described as a "monster of a song" and I could not agree more. The track was produced by Carey Willets (Athlete) and was premiered by Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1! Following on from this, they have also released two more singles 'Take It Or Leave It' and their most recent addition 'Way Down'. The first of which is a more relaxed addition compared to 'Messed up Feeling' but none-the-less a track full of personality with its driving, funky bass-line and the same heavy synthy sound. 'Way Down' is another huge tune and the bands songwriting just keeps on getting better and better. Still an incredibly catchy tune that we've become so accustomed to but this time bringing a darker, melancholy feel to the lyrics too. However, this feel does not take away from how good this song is, it only adds to it. They've thrown another huge anthemic chorus at us once agian, and the songwriting talent these lads have is scary, you'll have their lyrics flying through your head on repeat for days! Sheffield's RedFaces are a breath of fresh air and they've certainly established themselves on the indie-scene as an incredible band, we're all on the edge of our seats waiting for what's next from this talented bunch of lads and I can't wait to find out.
