Jordan Allen - An exciting band emerging from Manchester/BoltonJordan Allen are a rising four-piece indie band from Bolton who have made quite a big name for themselves. Having already performed at Reading and Leeds in 2016 on the BBC Introducing Stage and supported The Sherlock's on their UK tour, it's no surprise this band has a fair bit of hype about them. They describe themselves as rampant, lyrical indie and I couldn't put it better myself. Full-throttle guitar and catchy hooks reminiscent of the likes of The Strokes and Jamie T. The band has bucket-loads of energy, as can be heard in their single "Helter Skelter" with a heavy riff-fuelled bridge, screeching guitar solos and a massive chorus, what's not to like? "110 Ways To Make Things Better" is nothing less than inspirational, written in memory of lead singer Jordan Allen's late Father who passed away due to a brain tumour, the song looks to find hope and optimism in the world and radiates positive energy in such an infectious way. To add to this all proceeds are going to The Brain Tumour Charity, a heart warming sentiment to a great song. "Too Much Too Soon" is all about 'reflecting on the naivety of how easy it is to fall head over heels when you're young.' It is yet another spellbinding masterpiece really showcasing the lyrical prowess this band has. You can hear exactly why BBC introducing Manchester has said "I think we've found Manchester's answer to Jake Bugg"
Their latest single "R.O.S.I.E" is described by Allen as "a song about a posh girl that I met on my course at Uni who I hardly ever saw, because she was always out on mad three-day benders." and I have to say it's my favourite song yet. I think this quote from Allen sums up R.O.S.I.E perfectly "It’s funny because when people know you’ve written a song about a girl they immediately think it’s a love song, but this was just about her being a nutjob." The opening vocals I can only compare to the voice of Alex Turner (a comparison that has no doubt been made a thousand times already), the lyrics are mature, observant, intelligent and witty. Allen's voice is heavily distinctive with that northern accent shining through giving the band a likeable sound. A catchy, feel-good, hook-drenched, indie-pop tune. If you're looking for something new to listen to, something that will leave you smiling for the rest of the day, then Jordan Allen are a band you need to check out. From their quirky, witty lyrics and distinctive vocals to the riff-filled, full throttle guitar there really is nothing not to like about this indie band. If you are a fan of bands like Blossoms or Cabbage then Jordan Allen are nothing less than perfect for you! So, Why not check out some of their stuff? You won't be disappointed.
