Unbelievable. Amazing. Fantastic. Bloody brilliant. These are just a few of the words I could use to describe Friday nights performance from The Covasettes in Sheffield. I have been waiting in anticipation for months to finally see The Covasettes live. Naturally, I was optimistic and excited about seeing them play but never-the-less, they really did blow me off my feet and leave my jaw dropped to the floor. As a result I'm now running out of superlatives to describe them. Lets start with Chris Buxton's stage presence, it was unlike anything I've experienced, he's not arrogant or cocky like Liam Gallagher yet he emits a quiet confidence that makes you feel at ease. He had a firm grasp on the young crowd and seemed to take control of the room with his likeable personality. Bassist Jamie McIntyre and guitarist Matt Hewlett only added to this as they seemed to be having the time of their lives which resonated with the crowd. Let's not forget drummer Matt Buckley who's slick percussion work also helped to create such a brilliant atmosphere in the room. From the first beat of the first song I had one thought racing through my mind 'These guys are so good'. I knew before the gig that they had insanely infectious and catchy songs but Friday night confirmed what I already knew: The Covasettes are destined for greatness. Each song was performed with a slick crispness and were expertly polished, by no means was it a perfect performance but considering how young they are and the venue they had to work with, it really was an incredible performance. The crowd aided Buxton by screaming the lyrics back at him and I couldn't help but picture these boys on a much bigger stage, they may have Sold Out Sheffield's Café Totem but I could just hear and see crowds a hundred times the size jumping and singing to their music. Every song offered something different, the likes of 'Wild' and 'Top Drawer' got the crowd jumping whilst songs like 'She Is' allowed us to just stand in awe as it was impressively executed. Despite 'Like You' having only been released a week earlier that didn't stop the audience from knowing every single word, a crowd favourite already. They also treated us to several completely new songs (well new to me at least) that really got me excited for what's to come from The Covasettes. Although it was only a short set it was engaging, gripping and thoroughly entertaining. Overall The Covasettes showcased their undeniable musical talent, all four lads helped to create a soothing, feel-good atmosphere that was simply irresistible and they put on a brilliant performance. It was great to have a chat with lads at the end of the gig, they're so humble and just a great bunch of lads. I really hope they soon get the widespread recognition they deserve for the brilliant music they're creating. You can still catch The Covasettes live as they continue their UK tour in Birmingham this weekend, get your tickets below as The Covasettes are a band you do not want to miss.
