Once again The Covasettes produced a flawless show at Sheffield's Café Totem last Thursday night. I want to describe the gig as a "textbook" performance, however, that wouldn't be true because what these lads have is so good that it simply can't be taught. I've seen The Covasettes once before and since then they have only got better! They have come back more mature, slick and polished. One of my favourite things about The Cova's is how much they all seem to enjoy being on stage, they genuinely are just four mates who want to play music and have a good time. It's a joy to watch. They attracted quite a young audience but front-man Chris has the charisma to charm everyone, not only was the music impressive but the lads were funny, likeable and most importantly entertaining. Bassist Jamie McIntyre and guitarist Matt Hewlett both have such an infectious stage presence which you can't help but love and drummer Matt Buckley added to this with the same passion and enthusiasm that the front three have. They played all their hits with the likes of 'This Feeling', 'Like You' and 'Wondering Why' all being performed to perfection, As well as a few new songs, one of which I've heard some say is "better than Bohemian Rhapsody" I guess you'll just have to take my word for it and believe the hype until it's released! Top Drawer lived up to it's name, this song has the privilege of being their best song yet (if we are to believe Spotify). It was a real crowd pleaser. However, in my opinion this was nothing compared to the heights reached when they preformed 'She Is'. Now, maybe I'm biased because it's my favourite Cova's song but seriously - it was unreal. There is just something you've got to love about a stripped back, raw, acoustic styled song with lone vocals, once again I can only describe the vocals as exquisite. Every song they played the crowd seemed to be intoxicated and sang the words back. I've said it before but as much as I love Cafe Totem I can see them on a stage so much bigger with huge crowds screaming their songs back to them. The Cova's are so humble and thankful for all the support they get and they deserve all the success they've had and much more, they don't know how good they really are. The Covasettes are a superb live band and this performance showed exactly that, the set was overflowing with personality and polished to absolute perfection. They are a band you can't afford to miss! They have two shows coming up supporting Oddity Road one in Sheffield on the 23rd November at Plug and another in Manchester on the 29th at Gorilla!
