If pop-rock was personified then Dancing on Table would be the product. This Scottish five-piece from Dunfermline have been mates since school which is where the band first began which explains the perfect chemistry that they have. Since debuting in 2016, Dancing on Tables have made a name for themselves through shimmering indie pop numbers like “Missing,” “OH,” and “Body” all of which can be discovered on their 2018 sophomore EP, Space Race. The band take influences from the likes of Talking Heads, The Cure , The Smiths, The Beatles and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. In May this year they released Transpose their latest EP. This 5-track release contains four of the bands latest singles as well as a cover of the brilliant 'Dancing In The Dark' by Bruce Springsteen. The EP opens with a colourful and energetic number 'Colour Me Good'. A bubbly, upbeat track to spark the EP, it really showcases the unmistakable Scottish charm this band has as well as their obvious songwriting talent, its a track that is exciting and fun. The second track moves in a slightly different direction, with far more emphasis on the rock and not the pop. This rockier tune really does have some bite and like the opener continues with the same emphatic energy, its sound reminds me slighlty of Royal Blood but is certainly unique. The heartfelt and impassioned 'Black' is an emotional ballad all about break-up and hearth-ache. Much slower and bringing a subtle, gentler touch to the EP, another encouraging dimension to Dancing on Tables sound. The next track is 'Wonderland' which has a nostalgic feel to it, as the lads sing about their home which makes the song so relatable. It is another upbeat track and definitely one to add to your feel-good playlist. Commenting on the track the band said: “Your early twenties is a strange age to find yourself in, especially as a musician. We have spent the last few years traveling the world because of music, something which makes it easy to forget your roots. ‘Wonderland’ is the story of us returning to the place where we grew up in Scotland (less than a mile apart from each other) to see how the town we spent our childhood in has changed, reminding ourselves to never forget where you came from.” The final song is the Springsteen cover which is excellently executed and a pleasant way to round off the EP. For some feel-good, energetic, nostalgic music you simply have to check out Dancing on Tables as they really are a magnificent outfit that are totally infectious and addictive. Having already gained a cult following this band just keep growing and growing and you can hear exactly why they have achieved such well deserved success.
